Fukuhara Yumiko graduated from a local state university because her father was a doctor. She is a proud housewife who believes that her genteel middle class family will never be one of the lower class. Her daughter, Kana, is a vain, calculative person who has her sights on marrying an elite after women’s college. Her son, Sho, however, is a constant source of worry. She has tried to raise Sho with the conviction that putting in great effort will result in even greater results, but he hates such exertion. He dropped out of high school, took up part-time jobs and became a drifter with no desire for upward mobility.
